Will 'next Choice' Help To Prevent Pregnancy?

Hello doctor, on the 11th day of girlfriends cycle she needed to take the next choice two pill pack, now since she tupically has cycles longer then 28 days, usualy 30, we are under the assumption that she had not ovulated by the time of the acccident (since ovulation does not typically occur that early), but to be sure we bought and ovulation kit today (the 12th day of her cycle, the day after the accident) when she takes the test if she gets a negative result this means that she was in fact never ovulating and the pills are in fact going to continue to stop ovulation for this cycle correct? meaning that do to the timing of our accident there would have not been, and will not be an egg to be fertilizaed whatsoever this month (if the test is in fact negative). so basically to sum up the question, the pills should in fact completely stop any type of egg from being released due to th fact of how early in the cycle this accident occured, and if the test comes back negative, there wasn't ovulation present yesterday, thus the pills are working solely as a contraceptive? thank you very much for your time

Hello,

Emergency pills acts by altering hormones levels, which is not suitable for conception, But these pills should not be taken regularly. If her cycles were regular then usually on 14-16th day of cycle ovum will be released.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vidya K. R., General & Family Physician
