Which Medicine Can Best Treat Fluid Retention In Lower Extremities?

I routinely take a number of prescription and over the counter medications. Lately, I have had a significant problem with fluid retention in my lower extremeties. The doctors have prescribed hydrochlorothiazide 1- 25 mg tablet per day and furosemide 1-20 mg tab / day and that seemed to help a little at first, but the problem is getting worse. Are there other meds I should stop taking? I also take amlodipine 1-10mg tablet per day doxazosin 1- 8mg tablet/day, isosorbide mononitrate 1- 30mg/day, finasteride 1-5mg tablet per day , atorvastatin 40mg 1per day, metoprolol er succinate 100 mg 1per day, 2 senna 8.6 mg tablets per , and omeprazole 1 - tablet per day.

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this fluid retention in your lower limbs. What is causing this fluid retention? From the information you have provided, I have a strong suspicion for heart failure being a possible cause. The medications-hydrochlorothiaazide and furosemide are good for this condition. I think you may need higher doses of this medication. Also, avoid drinking too much fluid and reduce your daily salt intake. High doses of this medication can cause a drop in your potassium levels and your doctors should think of supplementing itshould you continue taking these medication of be switched to higher doses.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information should need be.
