What Is To Be Done After An Anti Tetanus Shot For A Rat Bite?

Good day! I am worried of my mom she is 73 y/o and last night she had a rat bite at the side of her finger in the left foot, her wound is like a pinch of a needle that can cause bleeding. I immediately washed it with alcohol and put a betadine then we go to the doctor and she had a anti tetanus. I just want to ask if what will be my next step after the injection of anti tetanus? Because i search in the google and i read there to wait for 10 days for any unidentified reaction. Please help me. Thank you so much!

Hello,

Regarding your tetanus shot, there's probably nothing more to expect. In theory, tetanus usually presents within the first 10 days after an injury. Despite that, it's also possible for tetanus to incubate for months! Please keep in mind that tetanus is a very rare disease.

Since you've cleaned the wound, done the anti-tetanus shot (immunoglobulin I suppose) you can only check your vaccination status. If you've received tetanus vaccination recently (within the last 5 years) then you don't need another shot. Otherwise new vaccination for tetanus may be appropriate.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
