I have a sister in law who has been taking cipro on and off since July. started feeling pain in her joints with swelling. Went to her MD and was started on prednisone. Her symptoms are increasing. I informed her to stop cipro and go to her MD this am. I want to know what is the treatment for cipro reaction? Thank you for your answer.

Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM.
I have thoroughly read your query and completely understand your concern.
According to me joint swelling is due to ciprofloxacin allergy (seen in a few individuals). There is no specific treatment for the side effects of ciprofloxacin. However I would suggest you to stop the drug and avoid this drug in the future.Joint pains and swelling will gradually subside with rest and analgesics. Prednisone is used to treat the allergic reaction/side effects of ciprofloxacin and it should be continued.Hope this answers your query.
