What Is The Cause Of Strange Sounds In Throat When Inhaling?

I currently have the flu, and a terrible cough, with alot of Phlegm.
When going to bed at night, my throat makes a strange husky sound when inhaling. I am a longterm smoker of about 15-20 a day since I was 15. I am now 46, relatively fit, I run six days a week for 50minutes, its amazing I can do this with the smoking and all. But the question is, the strange sounds in my throat??? Sorry didnt realise there was a payment straight off. Thought that the first question was free of charge. Thankyou all the same.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Smoking is a risk factor for development of various diseases and cancers.
Various lung diseases like bronchitis, asthma, emphysema and cancers are associated with smoking.
Cough and sputum production should be taken seriously.
You need to consult your physician for clinical examination and relevant investigations to look for any lung disease.
Investigations include X-ray chest, sputum examination, and endobronchial biopsy if required.
It is advisable to quit smoking as cigarette smoke has multiple carcinogenesis which can cause very aggressive tumors.

Thanks and take care
