What Is The Cause Of Irregular Periods With Nausea, Nervousness ?

I am 37 years old and for the past 4-5 months my menstrual cycles have been about one week early except this last one was 2 months early. I feel really nauseous after eating and just have a feeling of nervousness pretty much all the time. I also have like a metallic taste in my mouth , sometimes not so bad but other times it s just gross. Can you tell me what might be wrong?

Hi Crystal,

Usually delayed menstrual cycles can signal possible hormonal disorders but commonly emotional stress can delay cycles as well. If you are in a stressful situation and possible long work hours, kindly cut down on those. This may explain your nervousness. Stress can also change sleep pattern and cause disturbed sleep. Perform Yoga for stress relief as well.

Regarding metallic taste in the mouth, it could be a symptom of Acid peptic disease, especially if you have frequent belching, upper abdominal pain, nausea. Avoid spicy and oily food. Drink plenty of water. Lie down flat only after half an hour of consuming a meal, till then you can lie at an angle. If you have disturbing symptoms as mentioned, kindly consult with your Gastroenterologist to have a look with the scope for any ulcer or gastritis.

Once you get away from a stressful lifestyle, pamper yourself and find time to relax more than ever, there will be significant change in your habits and the way you feel. Avoid junk food at all costs, also smoking, alcohol. Do daily brisk walking for 40 minutes which helps reduce stress by releasing endorphins in your blood stream. If your cycles are still delayed, you may need to get a Gynecological consult to rule out PCOD.

Wishing good health..

Hello,
Welcome to HCM,
It is not menstrual cycle, but menstrual period which can start early. The duration of a normal menstrual cycle is 28 days, which includes menstrual period also. As there are 30/31 days in each month except February, but normal menstrual cycle takes only 28 days, next menstrual period is expected to start 2-3 days early in menstrual cycle of normal duration. Your last period was two months early means that for last 2 months your periods are missing. If you are sexually active, your symptoms can be due to pregnancy. You should get your pregnancy tested and consult a Gynaecologist.
Wish you good health,
