I am taking levofloxacin for bronchitis and have developed a rash over my whole body. Yesterday I found a painful lump on my shoulder. Is this connected to the medication? I am 64 years old and have taken this medication before (last month for sinus infection) and had no problem. I started out taking amoxicillan for a few days and developed a rash then. I discontinued that med after seeing the rash. Thank you for your help.
Understanding your concern. As per your query, you have symptoms of rash all over the body which seems to be compromised immunity of the body, allergic reaction, and contact dermatitis.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Apply cold compresses to rashes and take Benadryl.
- Avoid itching and pricking rashes.
- Wear cotton clothes.
- Avoid exposure to a dry environment.
- Avoid use of any hard cosmetics and drink plenty of fluids.
I would suggest you consult an allergy specialist for proper examination. The doctor may order a patch test, allergy test, blood test for IgE antibodies and physical examination. The doctor may prescribe anti-allergic medicine, corticosteroid ointment and anti-inflammatory.
