What Is Causing The Swelling In Right Ankle, Foot And Lower Leg After Being Tested Anemic?

I am getting swelling in my right ankle, foot and some in my lower leg. I have been taking iron supplement for the past month since I tested anemic - 9.3 for red blood ct. I am also taking b-12. In the past 10 years I had a gastric bypass. I am 64 and never had much problem with swelling in the past. Do you know what my swelling is caused from?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
new swelling in just one foot can be caused by a blood clot in the leg or by an injury to the foot or ankle. For a start you should check your blood uric acid levels and TSH and liver function tests and creatinine levels. Cardiac evaluation is also very important. It is advisable that you visit a doctor as early as possible for a clinical evaluation with investigations.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
