Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This probably from constipation, which causes too tight stools that causes pain on passing. That is why she is getting temporary relief with suppository. In such recurrent cases, I used to order thyroid function test and blood calcium level, as their abnormalities can cause constipation; if theses comes normal, I used to give laxatives like cremaffin, sodium picosulfate and lactulose, needing combination in some severe cases.

Most of the times we will be able to control, and will try to taper and stop after 3 months. you can discuss with your doctor. Meanwhile, give her fibre rich items like fruits, vegetables (orange, grapes, jack fruit, sweet potato, raw wheat, oats - are all fibre rich) and plenty of water. Some children has the habit of bowel holding- which can worsen the situation and to be avoided.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
