What Does Scattered Diverticula Are Seen Throughout The Sigmoid Colon Mean?

I had ct scan done .... 1. there is a 3.5 CM thin-walled cystic structure seen posterior to the bladder on the left which appears to be continuos with the vaginal cuff. differential diagnosis includes a seroma versus a lymphocele. This structure does not accumulate contrast and therefore a bladder diverticulum is much less likely. 2. Scattered diverticula are seen throughout the sigmoid colon . 3. fatty liver noted. 4 Osteoarthritis is seen in the right hip.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

It is important to know details about any operative procedure you underwent in the past and the time duration since then.

1. This explains the finding of a 3.5 cm fluid containing cyst like structures which is most probably a post surgical fluid collection in the pelvis behind the bladder and not much of a concern unless you are having pain exactly at that site.

2. There are small out pouchings from the walls of the large bowel called diverticula. These appear due to weakness in the bowel wall and few can be seen in the elderly. At a young age it is uncommon.

3. There is accumulation of fat in the liver. Not a real concern if your cholesterol levels are in the normal range.

4. Age related degenerative bony changes are seen in the right hip joint.
