What Could The Symptoms Like: Headaches, Back Aches, Nausea, Weight Gain Indicate?

Hello. I was just curious. I recently had a period about 2 weeks ago. I have been having weird symptoms. Me and my boyfriend have been having unprotected sex. The symptoms I am having are constant headaches heart burn back aches and also pains in my stomach nausea without throwing up I sleep a lot way more then usual (he is also) I also have been gaining weight. The strange thing about that is I've had a 30 lb weight loss last year and couldn't gain anything back.

Hi,

The possible causes of your problem according to your history are:
- Pelvic infection possibly due to unprotected intercourse, which can present with pain abdomen, nausea, backache etc. This can affect bot the partners.
- Though it is difficult to tell at two weeks of menstrual cycle, but possibility of pregnancy can also be considered according to your symptoms.

If the symptoms persist, better to consult your Gynecologist once, get examined and go for ultrasound if needed. In case of infection, antibiotics, antacids and analgesics can help. Blood test for pregnancy can detect the pregnancy at around expected date of the periods, whereas urine pregnancy test around one week after expected date of periods. By this the possibility of pregnancy can be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
