What Could Sudden Change In Bp With Dizzy Spells Suggest?

Hi, I have had to go for daily BP monitoring since the initial reading two weeks ago of 130/92. It is now down to 112/84 with no medication but complete change in diet. Yesterday though i had a dizzy spell. Should i be worried. What is the cause. Should I get on medication?

Hello dear,

Given the medical history that you have fluctuating readings on blood pressure recording, it can be attributed as a reason for your symptoms.

Other causes may be:
1. Any pathology in the vestibular apparatus in inner ear (it is associated with maintenance of body posture & balance)
2. Decrease in blood sugar levels (Hypoglycemia)
3. Deficiency of certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B 12, Calcium, etc. which interferes with blood formation & nerve conduction.

Symptomatic relief can be obtained with Vestibular sedatives.
In addition, you can take nervigenic agents (like Vit B6, B12, Folic acid).
Investigations like complete blood count, estimation of blood pressure (24 hr ambulatory BP monitoring), blood sugar levels and vestibular function tests will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Meanwhile, maintain adequate hydration, take a healthy balanced diet & avoid sudden head movements.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

Hypertension or high blood pressure can be controlled by life style modifications initially.
If not controlled by life style modifications, medication is required.
Life style modification includes diet modification and exercise.
Thus, you have been able to control your hypertension by life style changes.
Dizzy spells are caused by deficient blood supply to brain.
Deficient blood supple can be due to vaso vagal syncope or can be due to functional obstruction like atherosclerosis.
You need to consult about this with your cardiologist.
However, this does not suggest that you need to start medication for hypertension.

Thanks and take care

Hello dear, welcome to health care magic forum.
I guess you're not having any medical illnesses and not on any regular medication.
Hypotension usually can be managed with maintaining adequate fluid intake, and keeping regular food timings.
If it persists after these measures, kindly see your primary physician to look for any underlying causes.
Hope this answer will be helpful. Thank you.
