What Could Cause Vaginal Bleeding After Sex 10 Yrs After Hysterectomy?
What would cause vaginal bleeding after sex? This has happened twice. It's very light but it does concern me. I do not have any pain or any other problems or symptoms. I've had a hysterectomy 10yrs ago. I had breast cancer, caught in the very early stages, 3 yrs ago. (DCIS) Should I keep a watch to see if this continues or should I see my gynecologist?
Bleeding during sexual intercourse can at times be completely harmless but sometime it can be an indication of more serious conditions like HPV, as the lesions of this infection may not always be visible and are friable and bleed easily. Of course these are only assumptions, and to rule out the worst, it would be best to visit a doctor.
Hi, Thanks for the query. Postcoital bleeding after hysterectomy can occur due to causes like: -Presence of granulation tissue at the site of vault closure. Sometimes granulation tissue can develop at previous scar site in vagina. That can bleed during intercourse. -Vaginal infection. Sometimes vaginal infections can lead to raw areas in the vagina and these can bleed during intercourse. -Hormonal imbalance can lead to atrophy of vaginal mucosa. That can cause postcoital bleeding.
So, better to consult gynecologist once and get examined. Depending on the cause management can be planned. Take care.
