Question: My back is painful in kidney area. This morning there was blood in my urine. I have a dr. apt tomorow for blood work and then an apt. Can I wait till then to see a doctor. Will an antibiotic help if it is an infection. I take handfuls of food supplements and have for two years after breast cancer. I feel fabulous and have not been sick at all.

Brief Answer:
Yes better to get yourself evaluated

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HealthcareMagic..
I thank you for posting your query here and I am definitely going to help you out..

I read your question completely and have understood it well enough..
Please note..

1. Blood in the urine is a serious issue considering your age.
Never neglect it. Get yourself evaluated.

2. But since you are Breast Cancer patient, you would have been given Chemotherapy?
And its side effect of one drug that is commonly used.

3. Yes you can wait and there is no emergency. One more day is fine but don't wait too long.

4. Yes definitely antibiotics should be given if there is an infection.
But it has to be confirmed with urine culture and sensitive antibiotic should be used.

Hope this helps you..

My husband is 5-1/2 yrs post op prostacystectomy with as neobladder. He had severe infections post op and 3 occurrences of intestinal blockage but other than a few things, his ct scans have been ok. End of April he had hematuria with clots, this occurred 4-5 times - he also has increased BP for past 3 mos-high fatigue level, stab pains a few times in hips, ongoing back pain, and a fever over 100 on and off for 3 week. He couldn t be seen until Oct to which I said no - so Dr. Walker saw him after we waited 3 weeks, He was not the same person. Walker did a cystoscopy and UA -said all is fine. Never explains anything -like the 2 nodes in lung although no change: and Hilar nodes in prior ct scans. Matt had a CT scan 6 weeks ago - again we ve had to wait until tomorrow -another 5 weeks, The doctor can t even call? No report has been sent, His PCP isn t kept up to speed. I was an OR Tech and understand a lot and understand my husband may not want to know yet but I need to know all I can in order to stay strong to help him. This is all unfair in my mind. It seems there is more to be done to make sure its not recurrence which is SO highly common with invasive TCC - BCG was not an option and Matt has not had chemo. Something doesn t feel right, DO you agree with the doctor or should I ask for MRI or PETscan or IVP ?? Extensive labs? Matt has been prediabetic for 4 yrs. Has some placque buildup and has severe sleep apnea although in past month, his snoring nearly stopped. I don t know what to ask this cold surgeon - they have a way of making us feel like we are bothering them. Thank you so much. Carolyn Knott

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... My 79 year old father is suffering from recurring hemorrhagic episodes due to radiation cystitis (radioactive seed implantation for prostate cancer 7 years ago). 6 weeks ago he had a clot which required a trip to the ER for catherization. Afterward he was fine. 4 weeks later his urologist performed a cystoscopy? Is that right? Scope of the bladder. Hence his radiation cystitis diagnosis. But it stirred everything up and that night he had another blockage. He kept the foley for 3 days, removed it, bleed for a few hours, then urine was clear - until that night - another trip to ER. 7 days later foley was removed. That was 3 days ago and he s had a little blood here and there, but clear for the past 24 hours. His urologist wants to conduct an ultrasound with him drinking 24 oz. of water in an hour. I m very concerned that s going to stress his bladder and cause the walls to bleed. The poor man just wants to go on an open ended trip to florida - camping along the way - just winging it. I don t think he should do this test. It s purely academic. Everything other than radiation cystitis has been ruled out and there s little he can do about that. His new urologist does not like answering questions (dad just moved up to CT from VA). Yes, we ll find another doctor. But for now what do you think?

My 4 year old son has been going to the bathroom to urinate approximately once every 2-3 minutes. He also made mention that his urine is hot, not like it normally is. This symptom came on suddenly and since I have been typing this seems to have gone away. I realize that most doctors will say that this is a Urinary tract Infection, however, I have no idea how he got any bacteria buildup.

My name is Brenda, 5'7" 180 lbs. I was diagnosed in 2004. Presented with only the left ear affected. Blood Work sent to Mayo Clinic, confirmed Anti Collagen II. In 2006 had some nasal issues from RP nothing since. I have had microscopic hematuria since 1999 ranging from 2+ to 6+, about 20 different urinalysis and never an infection. Occasionally protein 5+. Had a urine cytology in 2006, negative for malignant cells, had a cytology in Feb 2010, negative for malignant cells. Had cytology 3 weeks ago, atypical urothelial. Have had symptoms similar to Interstial Cystitis for 5 to 6 years. Seems to flare at different times. Good for months at a time. Currently in some type of flair. Urinating 15-20 times a day, lots of burning but urinalysis done on Monday just came. back with blood 3+, no infection. Had cystoscope in 2008 looked good no lesions but bladder was slightly inflamed. I have another cystoscope scheduled for July 18th. I am extremely nervous about the Atypical Urothelial cells but have some comfort that I am still here with hematuria for 12 years. Do you think the Atypical Cells could be caused by what appear to be symptoms of Interstial Cystitis, or do you think it is likely I have bladder cancer. I am going insane waiting. Only one urologist is our town of 20,000.00
