Hi I'm 22 years old and I have 2 kids I have been on the depo shot for 3 years I never usually get a period if I do it's regular blood color and about 3 days . Yesterday I started bleedin and it Came out of no where very dark blood and very heavy when I use tampon it literally comes through in like 5 min I sat on toilet for an hour just bleedin droppinng blood is this normal ! Today I'm at store and start bleeding rush out store and go home came right thru tampon I'm scared and concerned have had sex for about 1 month
Hi, Thanks for the query. Depo shot can present with menstrual irregularities. But as you are having heavy bleeding better to get evaluated. Usually depo is having high efficiency in protecting towards pregnancy. But rarely failure of contraception can occur. So, now you consult gynecologist once and get evaluated. Go for antifibrinolytic drugs to control the bleeding. Then go for ultrasound. Ultrasound helps in ruling out the possibility of pregnancy and also to find out the endometrial thickness etc. Depending on the ultrasound findings further management can be planned. If hormonal imbalance is found to be the cause, additional dose of hormones may be required to control the bleeding. Take care.
