What Could Be The White Spots On Arms Of A 4 Year Old Child?
My 4 year old has 2-3 white spots on his left upper arms which I first saw about a year ago it less. Just recently I noticed blotchy white spots on his face, cheek and near his ear that appear ashy gray before it turns white. All these areas look gray at first then white. Could this be sunburn. Also his father noticed some circular raised areas on his back that look kind of ashy.
Hello, white spots can be caused by a number of conditions. Among these are allergic diseases and white or areas of low pigment. These areas typically do not have distinct borders. Other causes may be vitiligo, which is a rash with larger hypopigmented areas, distinct borders and an association with autoimmune diseases/diabetes for example. Another causes of hypopigmented spots is called tinea and is associated with a fungus.
Café au lait spots are the color of the coffee drink and associated with yet other conditions. If you would like to provide a photo with your question, I can provide more information as an electronic pediatrics consultant. The email of my practice is pulmd@aol.com.
