Hallow Dear,

Any bleeding six months after the labelled menopause is considered as post menopausal bleeding and invites detailed investigations to clinch the diagnosis. Lapse of menstruation for 6-9 months is labelled as menopause at this age. You had menopause for 2 years now.The conditions causing such bleeding may very from just incidental bleeding to cancer of any organ in the reproductory tract. The fact that you had pain followed by mucoid bloody discharge suggests that you may be having some tumour in the uterus with or without infection.

To start with, please get your ultrasonography done. It will give visual evidence of any tumour or other pathology in the uterus or surrounding organ(s). Please note the thickness of the uterine lining (endometrium). If the endometrium is > 4mm in thickness, it should be examined by hysteroscopy and submitted for histopathology examination. If no pathological lesion is noticed, or even otherwise, your blood may be examined for hormones like Oestrogen and Progesterone, bleeding disorders, etc.

Please get your blood pressure also checked. Though high blood pressure due to atherosclerosis can cause some post menopausal bleeding, it is not associated with pain.

You may need Laparoscopy also, depending upon the ultrasonography findings.

I hope this provides you guidelines for initial steps. However, please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP.
