I am in the process of going through testing. My problem is every November and begining of February, I go into coughing attacks. I can not stop, and I have lots of clear phelgm-blowing my nose. I cough so much that I get urinary stess incontinence. I was put on puffers(Flovent and ventolin) but ineffective. Then another(symicort) with an antibiotic(biaxin) still ineffective. Then I was put on predisone 50mg OD x 5 days and it helped greatly. I continue to have this hackey cough-for 20 plus years.Just did allergy testing and all negative. Now waiting for my next test. Any ideas?
HI. Steroid are helping you for that particularly seasonal cough indicates that you are suffering from Allergic Sinusitis and Rhinitis. The allergy leads to sinusitis and the Post-nasal drip to chronic severe cough. Stress Incontinence is due to the the pressure on the abdomen due to coughing putting pressure on the abdomen and the Urinary Bladder causing the stress incontinence . Allergy Testing does not help all the time. It is you that one has to find the nature of a allergens and have to avoid these. This is the best treatment and may need to continue steroid in a reducing dose, monitor blood sugar and blood pressure and cortisol levels along with the, calcium levels.
