What Causes Rashes On Chest, Forearms And Armpits?

My boyfriend has developed a rash on his chest, forearms, and behind his armpits. I believe it has to be associated with sweat somehow since he works outside everyday. He has had it about a week, and it is extremely itchy. There aren't any blister, but it is redding more everyday and the skin is rasied around the affected area. There has been no change in diet or detergent.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The rashes on the chest, forearms and armpits are indicative of heat rash, they can be due to allergy also. He should avoid high heat and humidity. He is suggested to take non-sedating antihistamines for relief. He can apply locally hydrocortisone cream to get relieve from itching. Calamine lotion and Lanolin cream are also effective. Application of cold compress is helpful.

He should avoid touching or scratching the affected area. Avoid wearing irritating fabric that rubs against the skin & hurts. Wear loose, lightweight clothing that wicks moisture away from your skin. Do not use lotions or creams that may block the pores. Take bath in cool water at least two to three times a day. Spend more time in air conditioned rooms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
