What Causes Rash On Back After Smoking Withdrawal?
Hi
My dad quit smoking in January this year under the care of a nurse, using patches. Since June he has had a rather angry rash which first started on his back and has now spread to the whole of his body. The doctors don't seem to know what it is and keep trying different creams and anitbiotics but these are not working; I am worried about my dad. He is very down; he is up almost all night itching and seems very tired. Ice seems to relieve him for a while with the itching.
I do not think that this rash is in anyway related to quitting smoking using patches. Firstly, there is no temporal correlation between quitting smoking and the appearance of the rash. Secondly, if the rash had been due to the patch, it would have appeared at the site where the patch was applied. A good dermatologist will be able to diagnose the rash and help your father.
Best wishes.
