What Causes Inter Menstrual Bleeding After Intercourse?
I was using Nuvaring for more that 3 years and decided to try pills (mainly because I had itching and burning during the sex even when my analysis were ok).
1. From 29.08 - 19.09 Nuvaring; on 19.09 I took Nuvaring out
2. From 23.09 - 28.09 menstruation; on 26.09 I started to use Yasmin (the date I would put a new ring)
3. 04.10 I noticed small spotting and cramping – I took 1g C vitamin (I have read in internet that it might help) for 4 days. Spotting was gone by 06.10 but on 09.10 it started again and is continuing.
Is it safe not to use back up method during the sex? Should I continue using Vitamin C and what can I do more to avoid this breakthrough bleeding (I have very important event this weekend and would be great not to worry about such problems)? For how long time this spotting can be?
I am using pills correctly every evening 22.00 pm.
So the most important question - am I protected if I don`t use a condom during the sex?
Hello, Thanks for letting us know your health concern. This irregular menstrual pattern is a side effect of the initiation of oral contraceptive pills. Due to the altered hormone milieu, abnormal menstrual patterns may be experienced. Styptics can be used to arrest the spotting/bleeding. In a couple of months, as the body adjusts to the altered hormone milieu, this abnormal pattern settles. During the first couple of months, additional protection is needed as there is a chance of ovulation. Hope this helps.
