What Causes Higher Level Of T4 And Lower Level Of TSH After Treatment For Hypothyroidism?
After being treated with Synthroid to treat Hypothyroidism for 20 years, my lab test for T4 came back above or higher than the range for that test, while my TSH test came back below the range for it. What causes that after so long with successful treatment for Hasimoto s? Do I need a referal to an specialist? What has changed?
Hello, thanks for posting on HCM. It is commonly seen that patients treated for hypothyroidism with high doses go in hyperthyroidism. Increased T4 and low TSH means the report directs toward hyperthyroidism. And that might be because of increased or higher dosage for you. You need to consult your doctor with the reports who I am sure will reduce the dosage and will come to a dose which will maintain equilibrium of thyroxine hormone in body. No need as such to consult a specialist, just follow up with your usual doctor will suffice. He will reduce the dosage of synthyroid or even can stop it for time being letting the leels of TSH and T4 to normalize only to restart it at lower dosage than before. I hope I have given satisfactory answer to your query, if you still have any more query kindly write back to me and I will be happy to help. Thank you
