What Causes Frequent Palpitations?

Hi. I am a 42 year old female and have been experiencing palpitations for several months now. They seem to be worsening and can even occur at rest. I wore a monitor for 24 hours last wk with readings as high as 174 without any strenuous activity. I have had a hysterectomy some yrs back but am wondering if this could be an indicator of pre-menopausal symptoms. Accompanied with the palpitations, I do have frequent episodes of what seems to be hot flashes . I am 5 2 at 185 and also finding it difficult to loose weight. TSH appears normal. So what now?

hello,i have gone through your question. Thanks for using HCM.First of all I need to know your exact report of 24 hrs holter monitoring, and need to confirm that 174 rate was sinus in origin. But i presume so and guide you further. You had hysterectomy at young age and so i presume that only uterus was removed and ovaries were preserved. In that case there are all the chances that your symptoms are due to menapause at this stage.Hence you need not worry.AS your TSH is normal hyperthyroidism is ruled out.I would suggest you to take multivitamins and Tab.Alprazolam 0.5 mg at bed time for 2 to 4 weeks. If palpitations persist you may add Tab.Propranolol 40 mg twice a day for 4 weeks.
you will be fine soon.My best wishes
