What Causes Frequent And Heavy Menstrual Bleeding After Delivering A Baby?
I had a baby 5 months ago. since then, I have had severe pains in my lower abdomen (left side manly) and frequent bleeding. I just ended my menstrual a week and a half ago and I started again yesterday. But since I had the baby.. I gush blood. In a matter of seconds I will soak through my clothing trying t get to the restroom. When I started yesterday there were several rather large clots. And the pain is indescribable. Well, I guess I could say that the pain is very close to labor pains. The point of labor where I ask for the epidural is more like it. is this normal??
Although some irregular or excessive bleeding is normal on resumption of periods after delivery, passage of clots and severe pain is not expected. This needs evaluation for the cause. Kindly see your gynecologist for evaluation.
If physical examination and abdominal ultrasound are normal, this can be treated with hormonal agents (usually progesterone and or estrogen) for few weeks to stabilise the hormonal equilibrium. Meanwhile, take paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
