What Causes Extreme Pain In Swallowing Food?

My daughter is away at college in New York. We are confident she is suffering from esophagitus . She has extreme pain swallowing esp cold even water and all food. She is not eating and we are worried. She had just finished a round of antibiotics and she takes naproxen prescription regularly . What can she do for the discomfort and how long does it take to get better.

Hi,
Thanks for writing your query.

After reading your post, I would suggest that she should add an antacid like Omeprazole 40 mg once a day before meals along with Domperidone 30 mg. It can be helpful in relieving the symptoms.
Antacid in liquid or gel form is also beneficial as it forms a protective layer over the damaged mucosa.

Following precautions may be beneficial :-
1. Avoid spicy and oily foods.
2. Do not remain empty stomach for long periods.
3. Avoid smoking and drink, if any.
4. Do not self medicate.
5. Drink lots of water daily.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
