Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Just had a blood occult test done and found traces of blood ... I had a fall about 6 months ago but didnt go to dr because I had lost my health ins. Could anything have happened that would cause this? Should I mention to the Gastroenterologist when I go? I fell out of the attic steps pretty hard. Blood work showed I was slight anemic too
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Stool test showing occult blood and traces of blood after 6 months of trauma to the abdomen may not be related although this has to be ruled out by the following ways: Contrast enhanced CT scan of the abdomen. Upper GI Endoscopy and colonoscopy. Capsule that is camera endoscopy if required as this is the only thing that can show the small intestine in its entire length. Tests of blood for CBC, bleeding and clotting times, prothrombin time, PPT and all the related tests. Rarely diagnostic laparoscopy may be needed.
