What Causes A Firm And Mobile Lump In The Throat?

Hello, I quit smoking almost two months ago. I have been a smoker for close to 12 years. I am a 32 y/o female 5 9 170 pounds. I recently found a lump on my throat and had it examined by our family physician. He said it s a thyroid nodule and suggested I make an appointment to have bloodwork and an ultrasound performed. The mass is relatively firm and moves a bit. It is almost directly on the isthmus. I would guess that it is about the size of a marble. I am concerned that it may be cancer, but obviously cannot know for sure until I have the ulstrasound. I was wondering if there is any connection between quitting smoking and the sudden appearance of this nodule?

Thyroid related disorders are more common in the females.a thyroid swelling presents as swelling in throat which moves with swelling. The first test in a case of thyroid swelling is to do thyroid function tests which is a blood test to know whether the gland is hyperfunctioning or hypofunctioning.A single nodule in thyroid gland should be investigated with ultrasound and aspiration cytology to rule out malignacy.
