What Causes A Chesty Cough And Fever?

Since Friday I have had a chesty cough, fever, aching, feel sick one minute and starving the next, getting stabby pains in my hands and feet and headache. I have also lost my voice. I have only had a couple of slices of toast since Saturday and am getting worried that I am not feeling any better.
I have been taking Benylin cold and flu capsules which are paracetomol based and also ibuprofen.
I had a hysterectomy 10 weeks ago but wouldn't have thought there was a connection.
I would be grateful for any advice you can give.
