What Can Cause Vulval Pricking Sensation?

I am having a bit irritation kind of pricking sensation in my vulval area for 4-5 days. Its not all the time but sometimes while walking in between I feel. Some dryness and prickly feeling here n there. Nothing inside vagina. I went to gynaec here and he checked it out and ruled out any fungal infection etc also he said vulva area looks good. He has asked me to put a cream in that area of discomfort but I wanted to know if it looks alright, then what could be causing such discomfortable feeling. I have never had it before. Please help. Thanks!
