Thyronorm Prescribed Due To Abnormal TSH Values. Have Mood Swings. How Long Does It Take To Start Functioning?

Hi doctor, My TSH is 13.8 which is out of range and based on my dr's recommendation I have started to take thyronorm- 100 mcg starting 27th Apr. I have huge mood swings which is interfering with my personal /professional life. This is unbearable and am struggling at the moment. How long does it take for thyronorm to start taking an effect in the body?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
You are recently detected to have underactive Thyroid that is hypothyroidism,as your TSH was 13.8.
This is good that you have started supplementation please continue to take it regularly.
It takes 2-3 weeks approximately to normalize thyroid hormone but your mood swings may not be related to hypothyroid but due to stress and may be having anxiety and panic so please visit a good psychiatrist and take proper psychotherapy and anti anxiety will reduce your mood swings and if age is perimenopausal that may be reason of mood swings.
Please repeat thyroid functions after 1 month to see your TSH is normal and it will also reduce your anxiety.
Please take care.
Good Luck.
