Throat Pain, Fever, Runny Nose, Coughing. Taken Gupisone. Safe Medicine?

I have a question and was hoping you would be able to clear my doubt.
Lately I have been quite sick and have been infected by the viral around. It's almost been 10days now. Initially it started with a throat pain and fever and gradually it ended up with flu symptoms ..runny nose and non stop coughing ( it was dry and now it's not) so the doctor an ENT specialist gave me shot of steroid.. And now he's prescribed me an oral tablet aswell which is Gupisone 5mg to be taken 3times for 3 days and 2 for 2 days and then 1 tablet for 5days.
My query: is it safe to be using this drug?
I've completed my first day only and do not see any major change . Is it safe to be using this drug for a viral infection ?
Will greatly appreciate your assistance

Yes it is safe to use this drug as it reduce inflammation and allergic response as that is one of the cause of rhinitis. It is physiologic anti histaminic and hence used in even serious allergic reaction. Since it is confirmed as viral infection we cant give anti viral for common cold due to its cost and variability of virus. Steroid short course will reduce inflammation and help to come out of symptoms. Dont stop suddenly and taper it as told by your doctor and then stop. Consult your doctor for further management.

it seems that you require evaluation of your case as viral infection subsides with time.
You may require antibiotic medicine as it might be mix bacterial infection as well.
Go for x-ray chest,
Go for complete blood checking.
Consult your doctor and discuss this.
Steroid only is not advisable without antibiotic as some times it may flare up the infection.
Avoid cold drinks and junk food.
Ok and take care.
