Testicle Seems To Be Large. No Pain. No Discharge, No Difficulty In Urination. Hydrocele? Surgery? If No Complications?
my husband is 52 yrs old and for the past year his testicles have been swollen to the point that I can only appreciate 1, the sac is one large sac. He denies any pain , no discharge, no difficulty with urination. I'm nurse and have worked in Urology and I feel that its just a common hydrocele. If he does not want surgery , what is the complications that can follow?
Hello I am Dr Abraham. I see that your husband has a swelling of his testis. An Ultrasound of testis is to be done to find out whether it has fluid or solid contents. Also a urological examination has to be done.
Hydrocele can be repaired through a simple operation, one is through groin other is through scrotum. Also it can be aspirated and sclerotherapy done so that the cavity is obliterated.
Complications are injury to spermatic cord, recurrence of hydrocele, wound infection, bleeding into the scrotum - called a scrotal hematoma, and injury to some erves (ilioingunial nerve injury). But with meticulous approach the risk of complications are very low.
Thanks Dr Abraham
