Taking Levothyroxine For Hypothyroidism. Have Hair Loss And Fatigue. Should Dosage Be Lowered?

I have Hypothyroidism and have been taking Levothyroxine 88mcg for about 2 years now. Over the years since I was diagnosed, (since 2001), I have had a steady increase in my dosage. I just had a blood test today and my Dr. called with the results and told me I m taking to much Levothyroxine. He wants me to go back to 50 mcg. But, recently I have been experiencing symptoms of hair loss and fatigue and I usually end up with a bump up in my dosage. I m confused as to why I he wants me go down in dosage. Won t that have a counter affect? Does this sound right to you? I m confused.

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
You are having Hypothyroidism and taking Thyroxine supplementation that is Levothyroxine 88 mcg. I am happy that you are taking it regularly.

If your blood test shows excess of thyroxine then we must lower the dose of Thyroxine.

It is very important to keep normal thyroid status as deficiency as well as excess of Thyroxine are harmful.

You should understand even excess can cause your symptoms so correcting your thyroid level will certainly benefit you.

You can recheck thyroid function after some time to confirm that they are in normal range.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Good Luck.
