Taking Alprax, Addicted To Benzodiazepine. Advised Tapering Dosage Of Clonazepam. Can I Follow ?

. i have been taking tab alprax {0.25mg+half of 0.25 mg }. 4 times in a day for the last 8 years now. it started as one tab aday and finally landed me into misery. i am myself a doctor . i am really very serious to stop it now. i met a lot many psychiatrists , some recommended tapering the medication , as 0.25 mg every 2-3 weeks, or more or less time period. others advocated a guideline to shift on long acting benzodiazepine ; clonazepam 3mg a day ... and then taper it slowly... others said only 0.75mg of clonazepam is required as 0.5mg of alprax =0.25mg of clonazepam... others said its better to take alprax sustained release 0.5mg in morning and 0.25 in night and taper the main doses under its cover ; increasing the SR ALPRAX and decreasing the stat doses gradually. that would minimise interdose withdrawal; i am confused which regieme to follow.... Dear sir, kindly guide me which guideline /protocol should i follow. i would be grateful. many many thanks. yours sincerely

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Respected sir, in my view rather than shifting to Alprax-SR, shifting to clonazepam 3mg/day with slow taper appears a better option. Secondly consider using anxiolytic antidepressant in small dose like Mirtazapine, trazodone as an adjuvant. Regards
