Taken Wrong Medicine For Abscessed Tooth. Had Fever, Chills, Vomiting, Headache. Worried About Side Effects

My fiance went the the dentist a few months ago for an abscessed tooth, and was given a prescription for a penicillin alternative due to a SEVERE allergy. The pharmacist just called us today saying the drug company had called saying they had mixed up the penicillin supply with the Cephalosporin supply. He had gotten very sick while taking the medication at the time and was advised by his doctor to stop taking it - he had fever & chills, severe vomiting (to the point that it tore his stomach lining), headaches, and other flu like symptoms. Should we be worried about any effects that he could have on going because of this mix up? And is there anything we can do?

Hello there,

Welcome to the forum,

The above symptoms which you mentioned are due to the side effects of the medications.
I would suggest you to visit to the concerned Dentist and get the prescription changed.
You can take tab paracetomol for fever.
Antibiotics and analgesics will provide temporary relief i would encourage you to get the treatement of the abscessed tooth done.
Take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.

Hope this helps out.

Regards..
