Suggest Treatment For Sinusitis

Hi Doctor,

I am an unmarried girl of age 28+, from New delhi. I suffer from sinusitis. post bathing, frequent sneezing (at least 10 - 12 sneezes) occurs and i am unable to tolerate presence of steam/water in nose. while sleeping, i feel difficulty in breathing and my mouth dries up in the morning. I dont feel fresh in the morning and a strange feel of dizziness is there. while eating/speaking too there is difficulty in taking simultaneous breath. I was diagnosed with DNS in left nasal septum 4 years ago. there also seems to be allergy from pollens, dust and smoke. pulling my nose up or pressing it slightly provides some relief at times.

I want to know what treatment is available in Delhi for this issue and in which hospitals. It would be great if i can have an idea of the cost part of the treatment.

Kindly advice.

Regards
Shruti

Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hello Shruti,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. Were I treating you, I would suggest you intranasal corticosteroids (mometasone or fluticasone) and montelukast for at least 4 weeks.

2. I would also suggest you regular steam inhalation and nose irrigation with saline which will help in nose obstruction symptoms.

3. An allergy test to common allergens - house dust mites, indoor molds, common pollens, insect proteins, pet danders (if you have pets) will help you identify the allergy causing substances and also to know the measures to avoid them.

4. Based on allergy testing, an Allergist-Immunologist may prescribe you allergen specific immunotherapy which gradually improve allergies by working like vaccines.

5. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises like Yoga & Pranayama and a healthy, light & nutritious diet which will improve your lung capacity and immunity respectively in a long run.

6. In general, please avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution as much as possible.

As you have asked about treatment in Delhi, I would think that a team approach with an ENT surgeon (as you have DNS also) and an Allergist will be helpful.

There are many good allergists and ENT surgeons in Delhi, VP Chest Institute has a department dealing with allergies.

Cost will actually depend on your final diagnosis and treatment, so it is actually difficult to predict at present.

Hope above suggestions and information will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
