Suggest Treatment For Basal Pneumonitis

X-report diagnosed suggestive of basal pneumonitis (left) a month ago along with neutrophil 78%, lymphocyte 16% and ESR 37. I was treated with Amoxicillin/clavulanate, Prednisolone, Montelukast and Ketotifen and felt quite okay. However, after one month again caught by fever, cold and coughing with chest pain. My physician advised me to take now Ceforuxime. Already took 8 antibiotics of 500mg twice a day. But still having coughing but fever removed after one day. Please advise if I’m having correct treatment. Thanks.

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
No, this is not correct way to treat pneumonia.
You already completed the course of broad spectrum antibiotic and now again develop cough and fever.
So possibility of worsening of pneumonia is more.
So better to first isolate the causative organism and then start appropriate antibiotic treatment.
So consult pulmonologist and get done sputum culture and sensitivity report. If sputum is not available then get done Bronchoscopy and BAL (bronchoalveolar lavage) analysis.
Culture report will isolate the causative organism and sensitivity report will guide about effective antibiotic treatment.
By this we can achieve quick recovery with minimal antibiotics.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
