Suggest Remedy For Sore Rashes In Neck & Eye

I have recently decorated my flat and we did a large amount of painting across the weekend. I now have a sore slightly bumpy pale rash across my neck, eye area, chin and ears and was wondering if there is anything that can relieve it. I think it might be caused by the paint fumes from the gloss paint.

Hello,

You are suffering from rash across your neck, eye area, chin and eyes after painting the walls of your flat. You have sensitive skin and have developed allergic rash reaction. Most latex paints contain a solvent, ethylene glycol, which is a noxious agent. Volatile Organic Compounds often present in the paints formaldehyde, xylene, toluene, benzene, etc cause reactions when the skin is exposed.

Always keep the window and doors open when you paint. It will prevent you from inhaling allergic paint fumes. Wear safety clothes and gloves to avoid physical contact with paint. In case of contact wash the affected area thoroughly. Take breaks between work(painting), allow yourself to breathe some fresh air. Always choose indoor paints and select a product that will generate less harmful fumes. Choose water based paints.

You can take non sedating antihistamines for relieve. Wash the affected area thoroughly, wipe it dry and apply a thin layer of ointment hydrocortisone to get rid of itching. If your symptoms are severe get clinically assessed by a dermatologist, you may require cortico-steroids to reduce serious allergy reactions. Rinse your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes with running water to reduce exposure. In case you have breathing difficulties, connect with an allergist, you may need allergy shots.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
