Suggest Remedy For Numbness & Swelling Fractures

hi. Last saturday, I punched a brick wall out of frustration. I went into the doctor with significant swelling and moderate pain. No fracture showed up on the xray. It has been 3 days since the doctor and the swelling has gone up. My pinky is becoming numb. They said to come back Sunday or Monday if not better. Please advise.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Punching a brick wall can cause significant injury to the hand. Even if you don't have a fracture the soft tissue contusion is considerable. The swelling will come down gradually with icing. Numbness of a finger can occur because of the pressure of the swelling. Keep the limb elevated and attempt to move the fingers gently. You may use pain killers and anti edema creams available in your area.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. George Verghese, Orthopedic Surgeon
