Suggest Medication For Depression And Sleeping Disorder

Hi I am 51 Years old, 64 Kg in weight and 171 cm of height. I am a Purser with a german airline and suffer from depression and sleeping disorder due to permanent shift changes and jetlag. In India a pharmacist precsribed Duzela 60 against depression and Movigil 200 for a better concentration and awakeness. Can I combine these two remedies taking them at day and/or nighttime without getting into mental problems? I am looking forward to your reply, Thanks Martina

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I can understand your concern. The problem of depression and sleeping disorder is getting aggravated because of repeated change in shifts of duty. Duzela is Duloxetine and this is a good anti-depressant drug and it can help you in depression but not much in sleep. Movigil is modafinil and it helps in maintaining day time alertness and keeps away drowsiness. First of all I would suggest you to consult a psychiatrist and not a pharmacist. Proper psychiatrist evaluation should be done and start taking medicines after then only.

As per my opinion the main reason for your problem is night shifts and jet lag. Due to this change in sleep architecture gets disturbed. Correcting sleep architecture results in improvement of symptoms. Medicines like Ramelteon or Melatonin can help to correct this problem and will help in sleep. Consult a psychiatrist and discuss about these medicines.

Thanks, Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi (Consultant Psychiatrist)
