Suggest Levothyroxine Dosage For Slightly High TSH

I have Grave s disease. I was diagnosed when I was 19. I took PTU 300 mg for 3 years and 100 mg for 2 years. Ever since I was 22 I have had hypo symptoms. I have prolactation of my breasts, frequent throat infections. I had my tonsils out when I was 24. I have been treated with psychiatric drugs for my symptoms. I have been very sick sine I was about 30. My health has been declining. Im on BP meds and they wanted to put me on Cholesterol meds. Now a new doctor looked at my TSH reading only and saw it was 5.8 and said it was slightly high . I went from .008 with full blown graves and a goiter and now it is at 5.8 and I feel like I should be 6 feet under. My question is should I be on a higher dose than 50 MCG and will the levothyroxine cause the Graves to come back. I am confused. I feel let down by the medical community. I have suffered for over 15 years with this debilitating disease. Please help. No one will help.

Hi welcome to health care magic....

The hyperthyroidism can lead disturbance in life style ...

Moreover you are having high blood pressure and high cholesterol ...
If these two can't controlled by life style measures than drugs for that started. .

Here yes your TSH level high but only slight ...
Normally it is up to 5 ......
So dose of PTU can be adjusted according to it ....
Maintainence dose like 100 to 150 mg per day can be taken ....

Whenever treatment for thyroid ongoing dose always adjusted according to TSH level ..

Just now no need for starting levothyroxine...

Meanwhile take low salt and low fatty diet with more exercise for high blood pressure and high fat ...

Consult physician for this ....

Take care ...
