Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing. All the details given in the description suggests your mother has a degenerative lumbar spine. Propably she should be suffering from low back pain.
*If the pain is concentrated only in the back, then it will be managed conservatively by means of rest, physiotherapy for back muscles, lumbar support, analgesics & muscle relaxants.
* If the pain starts radiating down into the legs from the back, then it is a matter of concern which indicates compression of the nerve root. Then a surgical intervention may be needed to decompress the nerve root. Hope this helps
