Sinus Problem Flaring After Quitting Smoking. Normal?

I am a 27 year old male I quit smoking about 2 months ago. Since then I have experienced alot of congestion and sinus pressure on the right side of my face. Also slight chest and throat pain on my right side. I got a ct scan done on my head and throat in spring of 2011 when I had been getting bad headahces around my right eye and enflamed lymph gland ., the scan showed I had a little bit of an enflamed sinus but nothing else concerning. also got lymphnode biopsy that came back fine. Also earlier this spring also on my right side I was having abdomen pains got a scan of abdomen from base of lung down and again they found nothing. But when I quit smoking all of this started to flare up and it seems most of the issues I am having are on my right side. I was wondering if this is normal that one side of body react more to quitting smoking then other. Thanks alot Doug

Hi,

Congratulation for quitting smoking. As you have already mentioned that you have problem in right sinus and right lower lung previously before qutting smoking. Now as you quit it completely your body is responding by removing all harmful substance from your body, which is very normal and cause some discomfort.

Because of earlier disease, it is flaring up more on right side. You can go for symptomatic treatment after consulting your local doctor.

Regards
Dr. Gaurav
