Silent Reflux, GERD, Lump Like Sensation In Throat, Excessive Mucus. Taking Tecta. What Is It?

Hello, What is the difference between silent reflux and GERD? I was taking 40 mg of Tecta every third day and now I have a prescription to start 20 mg of Pariet daily as my health plan does not cover Tecta any longer. Is this ok to take the Pariet every day. Usually a course is for four weeks. But I do not ever want to experience the symptoms associated with silent reflux again like excessive mucous and feeling like a lump in my throat.

Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

Silent reflux is non erosive relux that is the reflux which hasn't caused damage to oesophagus. While GERD involves both erosive and non erosive reflux. Pariet is safe and has got very minimal side effect.. Also take a prokinetic agent along with it like domperidone.

Lump like sensation in throat is due to reflux only
Few more tips for GERD:
1.Avoid fatty meals
2. Don’t lie down soon after meals for at least half hour
3.Take small and frequent meals, instead of full meals at a time
4. wear loose clothes
5. If you are overweight or obese do weight reduction with dieting and exercise
