Should I Be Worried About Leaking Of Oily Milk From Breast?

Hi, I stopped pumping milk for my twins about 14 months ago, yet I still lactate. My levels were checked in 7/13, yet deemed within the normal range. I'll notice one breast leaking on its own periodically. Last week, that breast and underarm were aching as if it was engorged, but not painful. I tried expressing milk to alleviate the pressure, and an abundance of milk and then oil came out. The oil is the consistency of olive oil. The aching stopped after that, but I'm still leaking here and there, and the oily milk will still come out.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to over secretion of prolactin. An ultrasound breast is required to rule out possible causes like galactocele. Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. A serum prolactin assay is also required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
