Severe Thrush, Tight Mouth, Problem Swallowing. History Of Having Botox Injections For Oromandibular Dystonia Regularly. Side Effects?

For the past 9 years I have received Botox injections for oromandibular dystonia on a quarterly basis. My last treatment ws on 8/15/13. I have a severe case of THRUSH and my mouth feels very tight. I'm having a problem swallowing food and am wondering if it is from the Thrush or could it be from the Botox. I've never had a problem with the Botox before. Can Botox cause permanent paralysis?
Thanks,
Phyllis Kiebler

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

I fully appreciate your concerns.

From the details provided, you seem to be suffering from fungal infection (Candidiasis) of mouth and food pipe. Once the infection is confirmed, a 2-3 weeks' course of anti-fungal drug will cure the condition.

You may therefore, consult your treating doctor and discuss the matter with him. He will examine you, confirm fungal infection and prescribe suitable anti-fungal drug.

Also, it would be worthwhile to get your Blood Sugar test done to exclude diabetes.

Botox, under normal circumstances, does not cause permanent paralysis.

Hope I have addressed your query to your satisfaction. If you have any further questions, I will be more than happy to help you.

However, if you do not have any further clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.

Wish you a speedy recovery and good health.

Fond regards and best wishes,

Dr. (Col) R Karanwal
