Red And Swollen Tonsils With White Spots, Child Having Enlarged Tonsils With Out White Spots. Cause?

I am not sure if I have tonsillitis , mono or something more serious. I have no fever , no pain, and no difficulty eating or drinking. Both my tonsils appear to be red and swollen and have white patches or spots all on them. I checked my 3 year old s throat and her tonsils appear to be enlarged and slightly red as well but no spots on them. What could be the cause

Hi and thanks for the query,
If you have no symptoms then do not worry.
Tonsils have many crypts and during an infection the pus gets collected in the crypts.
Gradually the pus tends to move up and comes to lie on the surface of the tonsils and it looks like white spots on the tonsils.
It is possible that you are having chronic - longstanding infection of the tonsils. But if you have no symptoms then you must forget about it.
You can do warm salt water gargling to loosen the crusts over the tonsils.
Regards, Dr Kishori.
