Recurring Fever, Dry Cough, Body Ache. What Could Be Causing It?

I have been having a recurring fever and dry hacking cough for 2 months now. In February I had a 24 fever of 102 with body aches and chills and cough as the only symptoms. Then the next day I felt fine. At the beginning of March I suddenly got a low grade fever of 101 and hacking cough for 3 days then it went away. Just yesterday I suddenly had 102 temp all night with horrible cough. I called my doctor and they said it s just a virus. Is this true that a fever and cough can just come on for no reason? Thanks

Hello Jodancer,

Thanks for posting your query,

Let me start by answering your question. It is not for no reason that you are having cough and fever, it is because you might be having a viral flu and they say it is just a virus because most at times in adults it poses no major problems. But recurrent respiratory tract infection and especially when it becomes persistent requires that it should be looked into. You might be exposed to some allergen or a viral flu. Also important to rule out bacterial bronchitis or pneumonia before concluding on a viral bronchitis. Cough syrups and antipyretics might just be the drugs you need to alleviate symptoms (maybe some antihistamines too if allergy suspected).
I suggest you do a consultation, just to make sure you are not having a serious respiratory infection.

Hope this helps and wish you the best.
God Bless
Dr. Nsah
