Raised, red bumps on upper body, itchy. Bug bites?

My husband has been waking in the morning with, what appear to be mosquito bites on his (mostly upper) body. They appear randomly. They are a raised, red bumps (some quite large) and seem to have a dot at the center. They are quite itchy. We both sleep in the same bed, and I have had no trouble at all. He does like to snooze on the couch at night before bed. Could something be biting him? We thoroughly vaccumed the couch. Don t know if spiders can cause raised welts like this? Very frustrated. Benadryl helps alot, but makes him very tired so he will not take regularly. Do these sound like bites? Or could they be hives? We were away last weekend and he did not have any new occurances. We come home and they re back. Very frustrating.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Firstly check for bed bugs, bug bites can give rise to such symptoms.
For his itching he can take some non sedative antihistaminics.
He can also apply some calamine lotion for a soothening effect.
Consult your physician or dermatologist before taking medication.

Thanks and regard
