I can`t take this med, i have Diverticulitis, and I`m ok with Flagl , but tthe other drug I can`t take. It gives me the shakes fom toe to head, confusion, dizziness , So my question is, What other drug can I take instead of Levofloxacin?

Thanks for posting your query,

There are many antibiotics substitute for treating diverticulitis even though floruquinolones are known for their activity on GIT bacteria that cause diverticulitis they are other drugs that could be used as substitutes. Combination of a floruquinolone such as ciprofloxacin/levofloxacin and flagyl are recommended regimens but since you are allergic to that class of drug ( the floroquinolones) it is best you ask your doctor to change. Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid monotherapy is acceptable as well. Antibiotics such as erythromycin or azythromycin can also be used.
Other general measures for treatment of diverticulitis should be followed.

Hope this helps

Hello, thanks for using HCM.
Diverticulitis is a common cause of left lower abdominal quadrant pain and results from inflammation of pouch-like structures found on the colon. While mild cases usually require just conservative treatment, moderate to severe cases require antibiotics or antibiotics and surgery.
Levofloxacin is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is sensitive to most of the enteric germs causing diverticulitis.Together with metro, a perfect antibiotic coverage is obtained. Too bad you are allergic to it as it could produce severe drug reactions.
Alternative drugs to quinolones (ciporfloxacin, levofloxacin , ofloxacin ) include doxicycline and cephalexin.

Best regards and hope this helps.
